Project description

Positioned at a highly prominent central location, directly adjacent to the historic Collins Avenue gates, the conservatory was designed to be the definitive 'showpiece' of the iconic gardens. It strategically integrates a commercial component, inviting paying visitors to immerse themselves in unique plant displays, complemented by exhibits of local butterfly and fish species.

The architectural form of the building draws profound inspiration from the Licuala ramsayi (Australian Fan Palm), a species exceptionally prevalent within the gardens and the adjacent Centenary Lakes. This complex, organic shape is realized through a sophisticated combination of a coated steel frame, specialized shade cloth, and meticulously crafted timber battening. Together, these elements create an immersive and distinctive tropical botanical experience for all visitors.
