The development of the new Ergon Energy headquarters in Cairns presented a unique, dual challenge for GGI Architects. Our firm was initially commissioned by the building developer to design the core building shell, specifically tailored for the future end-user. Subsequently, GGI was concurrently and independently engaged by Ergon Energy to undertake the comprehensive design and documentation of their interior fit-out.
The simultaneous execution of these two interconnected projects offered significant opportunities for optimizing both cost and time efficiencies. However, this integrated approach also necessitated navigating complex dynamics involving multiple clients and distinct building contract arrangements, demanding exceptional project management and coordination.
A paramount objective was to deliver a world-class, exceptionally contemporary, comfortable, and highly functional work environment for Ergon Energy's staff. This was achieved through the meticulous selection of premium materials, including extensive frameless glass, elegant natural timber finishes, sophisticated stone accents, and high-quality carpets and floor vinyls. Recognizing the demands of a dynamic workplace, acoustic performance was a major consideration. Solutions for both sound separation and attenuation were expertly integrated throughout the large open-plan offices and numerous meeting rooms of varying sizes and flexible configurations, ensuring optimal functionality and comfort.
From the project's inception, a strong emphasis was placed on sustainability. Building materials were carefully chosen, and whole-of-life costing was rigorously applied, with the overarching goal of creating a facility that minimizes both its initial environmental footprint and its ongoing impact.
