Redlynch State College

Situated on a gently undulating greenfield site within the picturesque Redlynch Valley, the college was conceived as a purpose-built middle school for Years 7 to 10. The site's natural eastward fall guided a planning philosophy centred on open-air circulation between single-storey buildings, with universal accessibility achieved through carefully considered ramped connections — a defining characteristic that grounds the campus intimately within its landscape.

Project description

An Evolving Brief | As one of Queensland's fastest-growing communities, the Redlynch Valley quickly outpaced early projections. The foresight embedded within the original masterplan enabled seamless expansion to accommodate senior schooling through Years 11 and 12, significantly elevating the campus's educational role within the region.

Most notably, the project realised Cairns' inaugural community cyclone shelter, integrated within the multipurpose sports hall — architecture in service not only of its daily users, but of the broader community in times of need.

Completed across four considered stages, the college stands as a sustained commitment to educational infrastructure: responsive in its evolution, and enduring in its contribution to the Redlynch community.
