The clients, a young and expanding family, presented a multifaceted brief: to maximize usable outdoor space on a steeply sloping terrain, while simultaneously ensuring the residence was passively cooled to suit the tropical climate.

A key requirement was the inclusion of a flexible, self-contained space, initially serving as guest accommodation and children’s hang out space with friends, with the foresight to adapt into independent living for grown children in the future.

Leveraging GGI Architects' integrated expertise in both architecture and landscape architecture, the design strategically mitigated the western sun exposure through the careful planning of a substantial cluster of shade trees along the western boundary. The primary dwelling was conceived as a narrow, multi-storey, single-room-deep structure positioned on the eastern side of the site. This orientation was crucial for maximizing prevailing south-easterly breezes and capturing expansive views stretching from the south-east to the south-west, not to mention the achievement of the all-sports yard!
